What do we do?

We support the English development of French children through fun, personalised tuition and care.

Each year, we recruit 30+ English-speaking “brothers and sisters” to work with families across Lyon.

The role

Childcare & Teaching Assistant

One role, one application. Depending on the family, your hours might be childcare, teaching, or a mix of both. Tell us what you enjoy and we will match you accordingly.

Childcare Assistant

Childcare in English. You look after the children and make English part of their everyday life.

Teaching Assistant

Fun private tuition. Lively English sessions at the family's home.

Childcare & Teaching Assistant

A mix of both: a teaching session followed by childcare, or the other way round.

Option A

Employee (CDI)

A salaried contract with My English Sister, with your hours spread across one or several families.

Option B

Freelance

You work through your own registered business and invoice My English Sister each month. You'll need a SIRET number.

  • Rates between €16 and €20/h depending on the role and number of children.

Join a lively and creative family with three energetic boys who love games, drawing and outdoor play. Pick the children up from school, stop at the park, then head home to help with showers, homework and fun English activities like games and arts and crafts.

School pick-up on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, head straight to the family home and immerse the children in English with games, activities and outings to the park, then lunch followed by nap or quiet time. The children understand and speak English.

Before you apply

These are the must-haves. Everything else, we talk about together.

  • Aged 17 or over
  • Right to work in France. We're not able to sponsor visas.
  • Living in Lyon, or moving here with a date in mind.
  • Fluent English (C1 or above).
  • Experience with children, paid or voluntary.

FAQ

Can I work with more than one family?

Yes, most of our assistants do. We build your week around your availability.

Do I need to speak French?

Not always. Some families need French at B2 level or above, others are happy with English only. Each role shows which.

How long do I need to commit for?

Most families ask for the whole school year, until the end of June. Some accept shorter assignments of 3 to 6 months.

I'm 17, can I apply?

Yes. If you'd like to work freelance, you'll need written authorisation from a parent or guardian.

Why do you ask for a video?

So we can hear your English and get a sense of you with children. It replaces the cover letter, and you can re-record as many times as you like.

Why do you need my photo?

If your application is successful, your photo goes on the profile we share with families. It also helps them recognise you if your first meeting is in a public place.

There's no role that fits me right now. Should I still apply?

Yes. Promising candidates join our talent pool and hear first about new roles and cover sessions.

What happens to my data?

Only our recruitment team sees your application. If we don't hire you, we delete it after 12 months unless you ask to stay in our talent pool.
